I felt the grief of Jesus over the personal development industry yesterday.
In fact I was overcome with a WAVE of grief which brought the immediate fear of God and a repentance spirit with it as I saw the ease with which we separate ourselves from God who created us when we look to try and fix and make better who He made us as.
How easily we are lulled into a life wandering ever further from the path He made straight for us, the plans for hope and a future He prepared for us, the vision He wants to stir in us, and ultimately?
The promised land He has ready for us to occupy and be prosperous in.
A little improvement here, a little upskilling there, going to the next level, why wouldn’t we?
I heard him say so clearly to me, words which shot through my spirit and had their immediate effect in me, “you look to IMPROVE who you are rather than looking to the one who SAYS who you are”, and I thought oh my LORD.
Oh my Lord FORGIVE us, and Lord bring that holy holy fear, because it’s not just about the bit where we try to take into our own hands and make into our own life the things only you can give or bring us into, it’s not just the unbelief, idolatry, and worship of self right there, it’s also about the outcome of that repeated daily over time.
Is it wild to say that the personal development and self help worlds are a slippery slope into the New Age world and the manifestation of the wiles of satan in your life and over your destiny?
My experience is it’s wild not to.
And maybe you think oh, Kat, that’s a bit much. So dramatic. Or oh, Kat, well that’s YOU, but I’m here to get better at everything I do and the personal development world has so much good in it to help me; sucks if YOU apparently got sucked in to other stuff but not me Kat!
Hey, I’m just passing on the word God has given me and what He clearly showed me which was the IMMENSE GRIEF OF JESUS over a world which draws us ever further down the path of improving who we are rather than looking to and declaring the words of the one who SAYS who we are.
The danger is real.
And the separation from God and destiny inevitable, if your outlook in any way denies, refutes, or dismisses, that your identity is found and formed ONLY in and from Jesus and NEVER from you doing what it takes to be good enough to get some place only He can take you.
I am not saying. That Jesus came to me and said don’t go and learn. Be diligent. Gain knowledge. GROW in new studies or skills.
I AM saying – whatever you do, do it for the glory of and as though unto God and let it originate by His Spirit in you or else it is death, sin, and CAN result in dead works only; your labour in vain.
It’s also flat out not operating in the rest of Jesus, and to top it off it makes it impossible to enter in to the place He is calling you to because THAT place is in and of the Kingdom of God, and can’t be reached by your own making! Which in turn, should you try to? Means you will not be walking in the flow OR overflow / blessing of the Lord. Heavenly multiplication, fruitfulness, prosperity? Nada.
This is … not up for negotiation. It’s straight scripture. Romans 8:14, Romans 14:23, Psalm 127:1, Colossians 3:17, Matthew 11:28-30, Exodus 6:8. To name a few.
I believe that as Kingdom messengers, entrepreneurs, leaders, we have to take so seriously the call to live ONLY in and by the spirit.
Where ANYTHING we embark upon needs to be by His leading.
Where ANYTHING we try to achieve or gain in our own effort or without the spirit of God behind it (a great ‘filter’ check for if right now you’re trying to make an argument for self-building you don’t wanna quit) needs to be cast off and repented for and renounced.
And where we understand that every move we make, every breath we take, and every day we leave behind us in our wake in which we strove to get to the promise God already gave us is one where we WALKED FURTHER AWAY FROM THAT PLACE and into the counterfeit.
The counterfeit is shiny. It’s compelling. It’s magnetic. And it is ALWAYS calling you, because no matter how much you achieve and attain, hey – ! There’s a next level and soz hon but you’re still not quite there.
It tempts us with the promise of worthiness when Jesus says I made you worthy.
It lures us with the hope of getting to a high place when Jesus says I AM hope and am TAKING you to a high place.
And it lulls us with the seduction of achieving every bounty and blessing that simply flat out doesn’t EXIST in true form outside of the place of its origin, which is Him.
It says keep going! Improve who you are! Measure up! Earn your place! You’re doing so good, but ugh, not good enough, GO HARDER BABE; YOU’VE GOT THIS!
And Jesus says I ALREADY GAVE THIS, and it’s FINISHED.
Diligence. Good hard work. Labour. Planting. Building. Seeing grow, flow, overflow! IDENTITY. All gets to be from and by the Spirit of God in you. It’s that simple.
And as much as the mind wants to wrestle perpetually with the idea that it can’t be THIS simple, the truth is it all begins and ends and IS, in the Word.
The spoken. Written. Rhema. Word. Person. Abiding in you. Through you. Coming OUT of you. Making His WAY through you. Parting the atmosphere in and AROUND you. SHAPING you. MAKING you. JESUS.
Here’s the thing.
And I don’t know if you’ve discovered this yourself.
But in the places where we begin, continue, and don’t stop declaring and decreeing life over ourselves. Calling into being who Christ says we are and what He has given us. Speaking HIS word and way over us, our kids, our finances, our businesses, our very MIND, every PART of us …
that is what eventuates.
Do we take action? Of course. Faith without works is dead.
But the action originates as it should. In Him. And is typically … so far from what we would have thought we needed to do to get there. Filled with supernatural power which is GRACE in more gaps than we could even ask to be filled, in place of us making a single thing happen!
Thing is –
We were designed to flow with the Holy Ghost, in the rivers of the Lord.
Thing is –
We can’t do that when we’re on the edge of the riverside scrabbling and scrambling and pushing our way through the bushes. No matter how many big cliffs we’re willing to climb or jump off in order to end up in that beautiful sparkling pool of promise, it just ain’t gonna happen because you don’t get to SUPER natural and the outpouring of God, through the outpouring of your own strength. Ideas. Or anything.
