I think one of the biggest stumbling blocks to doing the work we’re meant to do in the world is how incredibly and at times immovably hard it becomes when we make it all about the ‘I’.
What ‘I’ feel, what ‘I’ am ready for, what ‘I’ want, what ‘I’ am in the mood for today, whether ‘I’ feel like I’m in the vibe or the flow or have any kind of ability or desire to do the thing, whether ‘I’ think I’m good enough, whether ‘I’ think people think some kind of way about me or WOULD think some kind of way about me if I were to start posting like that, writing like that, creating like that, teaching like that, leading like that, being that kind of person like that, AUGHHHHH, the list goes on and never ends!
It LITERALLY will drive you crazy, and all at the same time as absolutely destroying your dreams and leaving the vision you KNOW is true for your life as stone cold lifeless.
And the whole entire time here’s what’s actually crazy. ‘Being that kind of person like that’, and the fact that fear of judgement or inability or fraud syndrome or whatever else you’ve got going can stop you BEING her is a simple reality of forgetting that it’s just who you ARE, and that actually?
We’re talking MISSION baby, and the fact that it’s all just a case of deciding to be you!
If you truly believed you came here for a reason …
If you truly believed your work is being waited on by people right now who are going to be powerfully impacted by it …
If you truly believed your MISSION is to walk forward in breathing life into the beyond the vision thang you dream of …
If you truly believed that therefore your DAILY mission is to do today’s work today, show up for the people that are waiting for you, both those who you know and those you never met yet, and EXPECT to see the thing prosper, grow, be of massive massive impact and service …
If you truly believed it was not all ABOUT you …
Well wouldn’t it be so much freaking easier to just do the thing?!
And the answer is equally yes AND no, because the truth is you do already believe all of those things!
But here is the thing with belief:
It has to bubble out from the hidden place.
You have to LET it out from that deep inner place.
And sometimes you gotta actively wrench it out of the secret place where it’s been sitting all comfy and intimate like with God for way past the bit where GIRL. You were meant to get up and start doing the thing.
Honestly?
Sometimes you gotta do that DAILY, or even multiple times per day!
Take right now. I am sat on the driveway of my new house, which I don’t yet have keys for so can’t go inside. And am waiting on hold for an ungodly amount of time for the energy company, as for reasons I’ve never heard of they’re refusing to connect the power without me being there in person. I’ve had a full day and I just don’t really … FEEL like writing a thing, or thinking any kind of thing about my business, or content, or even ticking off some admin!
But as time ticked on and I sat here waiting, flicking around on my phone, a thought bubbled up:
You’re on mission Kat.
Every day you’re on mission.
And while that doesn’t mean you have to use every pocket of time to write or create, the truth is you know there is work in you to come out right now, and a business which would benefit from you pouring into it, and people who need what God has put in you, and so just … get over yourself!
Let it be as easy as … then she just did!
Or take earlier today. I spent the day with some of my friends from church hanging out down near one of our beautiful Gold Coast beaches and doing a free sausage sizzle and offering free prayer, and just being amongst the community. One of our discipleship school missions. At one point I went out for a little prayer walk and ended up having a good long chat with a couple of guys on the street, homeless guys, buying some food but also just spending time and letting the love of Jesus come through and just … chatting.
This is not the first time I’ve sat down on the ground chatting with somebody on the street or offering prayer or food, but I still really noticed how EASY it was because today there was no question in my head of ‘am I going to stop?’
Why?
Because I was on MISSION today with my church team.
Plain and simple, I walked forward with certainty because it was what I was there for today.
And as a result, somebody – more than one somebody – was greatly impacted.
Thing is –
you’re on mission everyday in whatever it is that you’re here for.
Some days that mission is behind the scenes, and doesn’t require you to publicly say or do something.
But most of the time when you don’t show up as though people are already waiting and you have an assignment YOU JUST DIDN’T SHOW UP FOR THE JOB OF BEING YOU.
And so what if.
For tomorrow.
And then the next day.
And even the one after!
We just … showed up for the assignment that already has our name on it.
I mean, think about it – NOBODY ELSE IS GOING TO. Because literally only you are the one who can do the job of being you.
