THE END OF PERFORMANCE BASED BELIEF

Gorgeous I believe God is calling His daughters to be done with the places in our lives where we have ASSUMED our faith looks ‘like this’, done with every assumption which is in fact exalting itself above His truth and yet were were MAKING truth, and done, for good, with performance based belief.

Here is what performance based belief looks like:

“If I truly had faith, then I would / would not”.

“If I truly trusted God, then I would never / would always”.

“If I actually knew His promises were real, I would stop / start”.

And any version of:

“I will make myself hold tight and not take action because God will come through in place of ME moving forward with what I know or would think to do”.

As well as:

“If I give this seed / plant this thing / sow or take action like that, it will result in God’s outpouring or breakthrough in such and such area I’ve been stuck in or waiting on”.

I remember one time watching a video where a girl shared she had sowed every last penny she had into a visiting ministry as a seed for her $10,000 college fees to be supernaturally paid by God.

And she got kicked out of college for not paying.

Just like how right now, all around the world, there are people holding out for a breakthrough God never told them to WAIT on like that, with a faith which came from HUMAN hope or wisdom and so which is no faith at all!

Gorgeous can I tell you?

He has me writing about this because He highlighted to me this morning where I was doing exactly that in an area of my life!

Waiting, except doing so by my own intellect and almost like a fingers crossed sort of hope, all the while thinking – assuming – it was obviously the RIGHT thing to do because anything else would be ME trying to make it happen.

In fact He even showed me in His word where I had a ‘thou shalt not’ belief relevant to this thing which is not even SCRIPTURAL. And how I’d taken something out of its full context and then made it law in my life outside of both the fullness of scripture as well as the leading of the Holy Spirit!

In all honesty I was kind of shocked. I’d been so certain I was choosing the correct approach to my faith on this thing. And went furiously digging through the Bible to affirm what I was hearing, in case I was, well, not!

Can I tell you this is not the first time – even this week – that God has shown me not to ‘default apply’ principles of faith in place of fully and rightly waiting on His leading and being obedient to that?!

In the case of the thing He showed me this morning, the revelation He gave me makes things SO MUCH EASIER and also allows for immediate breakthrough. Hence me thinking surely it must be ME thinking that. Only to realise that it was the wannabe PERFECTIONIST me of my flesh who decided my faith had to look ‘like that’ in the first place, and backed it up with scripture I just assumed was the whole picture.

In the case of the other thing no I definitely did NOT want to hear what he told me, which was essentially to STOP looking for breakthrough or pursuing that thing, or I was going to end up with a misaligned destiny. A case of quail falling in the desert and killing you, or getting a King for your nation but he just about destroys it, but hey, you got what you wanted! If you know what I mean 🙂

Even though I was taken aback to realise I’d been asking amiss, I was so grateful to Holy Spirit for leading me to this revelation and immediately repented and closed the whole pursuit down because there ain’t no WAY I want anything other than God’s plan.

Do you see the common thread in all of this?

Anything and indeed EVERYTHING which originates outside the leading of the Holy Spirit is sin. Romans 14:23.

This means that your seed you sowed because ‘that’s how the Kingdom of God works’ rather than because you had a stirring in your spirit is sinful, and it will NOT return you what you hoped.

It will die on the dry or thorny ground it fell on, and YOU will be tired out and further delayed from destiny because you went looking to make faith work for you rather than waiting for it to rise THROUGH you.

Just like how your insistence that ‘God will show up’ while you dig your heels in and refuse to take action including action which He speaks to you (and He does!) through your own common sense and imagination will result in you having very tired heels and still no breakthrough because maybe, just maybe, what you need is already in or close by to your hands and you just gotta pick it up!

“But how do I how do I how do I get it RIGHT?!”

Look.

The enemy knows exactly what your weak areas are.

One of mine, historically?

Fear of getting it wrong.

Fear of being thought by any authority or leader I respect to not be strong enough, determined enough, good enough.

Imperfection, basically.

This makes me an easy target with any weapon formed with a cloak of ‘this will make you good, right, enough, this is what doing it PERFECTLY would look like’.

Yet I am a completely untouchable target when I walk breath by breath in the Lord, and simply let HIM originate my choices. The Name of Jesus holds higher authority than EVERYTHING both in and off this earth!

So am I berating myself for missing it?

Do I think I should have been perfect at being led by the Spirit on these things sooner?

Is that a trick question?!

I in Christ don’t expect myself to be perfect. He doesn’t expect me to either.

As humans we’re going to miss it sometimes.

There’s going to be times when an assumption or previous outlook or theology we have heard in our flesh yet not had revealed in our spirit clouds our hearing.

This is literally the sanctification of Jesus in and through us in action!

Life in God is not about ‘getting it right, always, and never missing a step’.

WE literally can’t do that!

He IN us already has it PERFECT, and He is the one who straightens our path, blesses and keeps us on it, and favours us as we walk every bit of it!

Which means?

WORRY NOT.

KEEP WORKING OUT YOUR SALVATION DAILY.

TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY.

Seek the Lord CONTINUALLY.

And know that in doing that He WILL right your way.

It’s what He does!

When you live a life of yielding, seeking, sitting with, waiting on Him, and expecting and knowing He IS going to lead you and direct every move you need to make or not make, you WILL hear His prompting.

He will continue to work in you to align you to His way for you.

That is how it WORKS my love.

And what a beautiful thing it is.

What an incredible thing it is, to receive fresh oil from God in Heaven to show you ‘come, my child, it’s here’. Or ‘no, my child, not like that’. Or ‘yes, but not yet’.

This is what trust in action IS.

And if you want a shortcut to all of this?

Don’t make decisions or moves that sound like faith but which were not personally and individually woken in your spirit BY His Spirit for you.

Yes this also means don’t get impatient and decide what faith would surely look at because you’re not really ‘getting’ anything.

What it really comes down to?

Live your life in the flow of the Lord and whichever bits you tried to drag in off the riverbank He will surely show you.
